Armor question
The day is finally almost here, i just got paid today and I will be buying this game tomorrow. I was wondering if there is different armors in this game. In WoW you got armor for both PvE'ing dungeons, and PvP'ing battlegrounds. Now here is my question, In GW, do you get pvp gear and pve gear or is it just all one gear. And my next question, does gear play a pretty big part in GW? thank you for your help guys, and ill see you all tomorrow in game (((=

There really isn't any special pvp/pve armor gear. Both pvp and pve characters have access to the same armor arts and stats (though the methods of aquiring them differ a significant bit) This game is more based on strategy and your character skill 'builds' than your armor (though they can have runes/insignas added to boost certains abilities and strengths).

Heya iErik! It's cool that you're picking up Guild Wars...I hope you enjoy it
I wanted to pass along a link to our official wiki that will teach you a bit more about armor in the game: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armor. It will give you some information to check out so you can learn more. If you're more interested in checking out the different sets of armor to see what you could look like, we have lots of pics up for each of the professions. Here's a list of our main professions: (You have to own Guild Wars: Factions to play these professions) (You have to own Guild Wars: Nightfall to play one of these guys) I wasn't sure which campaign(s) you were planning on buying, so I linked them all for quick reference Anyways, I hope you have fun playing this weekend! Good luck picking your profession. |

The armor itself does not matter
But some skins are pretty leet and show off What matters is,of course that the armor is max (this differs from each proffesion, but once you get to a certain point of the game, all armor you can buy is max) and the insignias, runes, etc you put on it. Insignias and runes boost atributes, health, energy,+x armor while doing x thing, etc. To get armor in PvE you buy it (im talking about max here, everything else is pretty worthless,id suggest AGAINST buying armor until you can get max one,at least in Factions and Nightfall) by talking to an armor crafter. He will tell you what you need for each part of the armor. example 50 of X material 250 of Y material 5000 gold The armor has 5 parts: Head, vest, gloves, leggings and boots Most of the time the armor crafter asks for the same things for each part,BUT sometimes it is not so,and most of the time its in different quantities. Yep,you can mix armors,IE buy X headpiece,Y gloves,B vest, etc. If you want to see different armor skins, go here and type on the search box "Proffesion you want to be here armor" And all the skins will show, note that theres special headpieces and gloves that do not differ from each proffesion and you need EOTN to get these. In PvP you get armor by exaching zaishen coins to an NPC (you can read it here) I think thats all....add me in game,IGN is username..good luck |

Wow, personal responses from ANet for someone who hasn't even purchased the game yet. How's that for customer service.

Just wanna point out that 'gear' in guild wars isn't like that of any other MMO you've played. You can have an armor set that costs 25k, and an armor set that costs over a million with the same exact stats. The only difference between the two would be how they look. Statistically, max armor is max armor no matter how you look at it, and is really easy to get. Same goes for weapons and stuff. So in the end what items you have isn't important, just how good you are at playing the game.

Thank you, Emily, for helping out.
@OP - unlike most MMOs, Guild Wars is based on what you do and not on what you have. You can obtain max damage weapons and max protection armor fairly early in any of the campaigns. The game's focus is on obtaining skills and learning how to combine them in your 8-slot skillbar for the most effective build (which changes according to the foes you will be facing). This is not to say that no one cares what armor they have. GW has a wide variety of armor for each profession and between that, dyes and mix-and-match, the towns and outposts are very interesting.
